Time and stopping
A free simulator can still take more time than intended. Decide when to stop, use an external timer if useful, and leave the page when play interferes with other tasks or feels uncomfortable. Four independent heights on one line?
Four sites on ONE line each start at an independent uniform height0,1,2,3. While any site has height at least2, automatically topple the LEFTMOST UNSTABLE site: subtract2 there and send1 grain to each neighbour. A grain sent beyond an end disappears into a sink. Interior grains remain. One whole captured stake prices the entire initial line and stabilization.
Count all automatic topplings?
Stop when every height is0 or1. Raw score is the total number of topplings, not rank, number of distinct sites or number of final grains. This is not four rows or sixteen cells. The leftmost unstable site may be a later site, not necessarily site0. Players do not choose topplings or timing.
2000 scores1 and0000 scores0?
Initial[2,0,0,0] topples once into[0,1,0,0]. One grain exits the left sink and the other reaches site1, so raw score1. Initial[0,0,0,0] is already stable and scores0. The chosen power is normalized by its own mean, not used directly as a payout multiplier.
Exact means and expected gross credit?
For p=1,2,3, gross multiplier=0.96*rawScore^p/mean(rawScore^p). Exact means are7.4140625,81.4140625,1052.8671875. Each mode has96% expected unrounded gross credit, not winning frequency, net profit or a guaranteed final wallet. Zero stays zero. Powers are not multiplication by2 or3. Choose the mode before drawing, not after calculating score.
